Norwich Through The Lens
From the cobbled lanes of Elm Hill, to the soaring heights of the Cathedral spire, it’s easy to see why Norwich remains a historical capital of England, a place where writers, artists and all manner of people are drawn to. Growing around the River Wensum, it was a thriving centre for trade from all over Europe. In fact, medieval Norwich was the second largest city in England for many centuries. It was once famously stated that Norwich had “a pub for every day of the year and a church for every Sunday”. Take a quick jaunt through the city and you will see that statement still rings true today. “Norwich, Through the Lens” takes a photographic journey through the city, from the perspective of photography student Hannah Whittle, who is taking her bachelors in photography at Norwich University of the Arts. Having grown up and lived in Norwich her whole life, Hannah wanted to share her passion for the buildings that make this city what it is. Featured are pictures of all the most iconic historical landmarks and places, paired with an exploration of the history and significance of each building, written by local writer Joel Whittle, who’s passion for history and the city drew him to this work. Few cities come close to the rich character and architecture of Norwich.
